Philippine Daily Inquirer publisher Isagani Yambot was a big boss who did not act like one. He had an infectious smile that would remind you of your lolo. He talked and listened intently to his subordinates, including this scholar-slash-intern who wore an unzipped polo shirt and shorts in the PDI newsroom.
The last time I would see Sir Gani was at the NUJP Press Jam, offering a poem to slain journalists.
Rest in Peace Sir Gani. You have inspired a lot of us would-be journalists.
