Farewell, Sir Gani

Philippine Daily Inquirer publisher Isagani Yambot was a big boss who did not act like one. He had an infectious smile that would remind you of your lolo. He talked and listened intently to his subordinates, including this scholar-slash-intern who wore an unzipped polo shirt and shorts in the PDI newsroom.

The last time I would see Sir Gani was at the NUJP Press Jam, offering a poem to slain journalists.

Rest in Peace Sir Gani. You have inspired a lot of us would-be journalists.

26 things as I turned 26

  1. Think positive. Look at the bright side, the half full glass, the small victories you've achieved.
  2. Sing your heart out in the shower. You may not hit the notes but it's a good way to start your day. Plus you'd serve as an alarm clock for your snoring neighbors.
  3. Don't openly criticize a person in public. Instead, talk to him or her in private. A scolding boss humiliates his subordinates because of power; otherwise, he earns respect.

Kuya Angie, how are you doing? Have you decided to settle down like Ate Meliza? Or do you have another one-night stand story to share? Haha.

Strange Visions

I really can't tell if my being nearsighted is more of a problem than a blessing. Sure, it makes me more confident in talking publicly when I don't clearly see the faces glued on me. But beyond that, my myopia prevents me from seeing the strange visions I had when I was a kid, when I had 20/20 vision. Well, almost.
